Harlan man pleads guilty to giving alcohol to underage life guards

September 23, 2005 By admin

A Harlan man has pleaded guilty to providing alcohol to underage lifeguards while they were on duty this summer at the Harlan swimming pool. Twenty-one year-old Karl Freml pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this week in Shelby County District Court. Freml was ordered to pay a 250-dollar fine and perform 30 hours of community service work. Two former lifeguards, 18-year-old Heather Scheffler of Harlan and 19-year-old Jenna Schulte of Westphalia have both pleaded not guilty to being minors in possession of alcohol. Both are scheduled to appear in court later this month. The cases of three other lifeguards, all 16, have been referred to juvenile court authorities. All of the lifeguards were fired after allegedly consuming Jello shots while on duty July 29th at the aquatic center.
