Dordt to start football program

October 24, 2005 By admin

Dordt College in Sioux Center has decided to play football. The school’s board of trustees has approved a recommendation to add varsity football in 2008.Dordt president Carl Zylstra says they can raise the start up funds to find a coach to put together a coaching staff and team. He says they have studied adding the sport of football for a couple of years and feel now is the right time. He says a lot of the students in the past came from school that did not have football, but now more do have football.Dordt competes in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and Zylstra says Briar Cliff’s addition of varsity football encouraged them. He says they introduced football in a way that didn’t hamper their faith-based mission and made a good showing.
