Iowa hosts own tournament tonight

December 2, 2005 By admin

The 14th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes return to action tonight when they take on Fairfield in the first round of the Hawkeye Challenge. Iowa improved to 5-1 on Wednesday night by grinding out a 45-42 win over North Carolina State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Hawkeyes survived cold shooting as they hit only 29-percent for the game, including just two of 12 from three point range. A bigger concern to coach Steve Alford is turnovers, the Hawkeyes had 19 in the contest. He says as their shooting kicks in, he says they can be a good team. Alford says if they take good shots he doesn’t care as he says a missed shot is a lot better than no shot.

Valparaiso and Tulane meet in the first game of the evening and Alford says he has never had trouble finding teams to take part. The winners of tonight’s games will play for the championship tomorrow night.
