Two escape plane crash in Algona

A pilot and a passenger were injured in a crash at the Algona airport. Kossuth County Sheriff Paul Gronbach says the injuries were non life threatening as the two were taken to Kossuth Regional Health Center for treatment. He says the accident took place at 7:20 P.M.

One of the subjects a 45-year-old female was seat belted and was able to crawl out of the plane and apparently suffered a fractured leg. It was a Cessna C-150 type aircraft that was a total loss estimated at 250-thousand dollars.

U.S. Highway 18 had to be blocked off because of onlookers. The weather was foggy at the time. Visibility was reduced to a 12th of a mile at the time. Sheriff Gronbach says the scene will be protected until officials of the Federal Aviation Administration arrive to investigate tomorrow/today.
