Waterloo man charged with spiking woman’s drink

A Waterloo man is facing possible prison time and a fine after he allegedly spiked a woman’s drink. Twenty-two-year old Cole Bristow is accused of pouring syrup of ipecac into a container of soda pop at a HyVee store in Cedar Rapids on January 24th. Ipecac is used to induce vomiting in the case of poisoning.

The victim a 47-year-old Cedar Rapids woman who was working at the store, took a drink from the container and said she thought it had a funny taste. The woman later went to a Cedar Rapids hospital after repeatedly and violently vomiting. Bristow was charged with a felony count of administering a harmful substance. If convicted, Bristow faces up to five years in prison and a 75-hundred dollar fine.
