B-V softball team battles bad weather

April 10, 2006 By admin

The Buena Vista softball team has battled bad weather and a tough schedule but the Beavers are off to a quick start in the Iowa Conference race. The Beavers are 9-7 overall and 4-0 in the league race heading into Tuesday’s doubleheader at home against defending champ Coe.

B-V coach Marge Willadsen says they haven’t been able to practice outside very much as all this year. Their luck with the weather has been so bad they even had several games rained out during a trip to Hawaii. They had eight games scheduled and only were able to play four. Willadsen says they weren’t able to practice either because things were so wet.

Willadsen feels her team is playing better in part because they have adapted to a new hitting strategy implemented a year ago. She says it’s a philosophy from the University of Arizona and U-C-L-A that’s pattered after a tennis swing and not as compact as you normally see in softball.

The matchup against Coe gives Buena Vista a chance to make an early statement in the league race. She says Coe has always been one of the top four teams in the league. Willadsen says it should be the best test they’ve had thus far.
