Details released on northeast Iowa chase

April 12, 2006 By admin

Authorities in northeast Iowa have released the details of a car chase Monday involving the resident of a care facility. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call from an employee of Prairie from an employee of Prairie View Residential Care Facility near Fayette, that a client had stolen a van.

The responding deputy spotted the van two miles south of Hawkeye. After chasing the van for about three miles, the suspect stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road, put it in reverse and rammed the squad car. The chase continued a short time after that until the man pulled over and surrendered. No one was injured.

The driver, 41-year-old Robert Hamilton Junior, a resident of the care facility, was charged with operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, criminal mischief in the second degree, assault on a peace officer, eluding and driving while suspended. Hamilton was taken to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in West Union. There was approximately four-thousand dollars in damage to the van and squad car.
