Onawa man dies when truck collides with train

July 5, 2006 By admin

An Onawa man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his pickup truck collided with a train in western Iowa’s Monona County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 35-year old Gregory Berg was killed when the 1991 Chevrolet pickup he was driving failed to yield to a Union Pacific train.

The accident happened north of Onawa at around 1:45-p.m., as the pickup was headed eastbound on 205-th Street and the train was traveling northbound on the rail line. Troopers says Berg – who was wearing his seatbelt – was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one on board the train was injured.
