Mt. Pleasant to host basketball tournament

July 18, 2006 By admin

The streets of downtown will be lined with basketball hoops beginning August 12th when the town of Mount Pleasant hosts the “Avenue of the Saints 3-on-3 Championships.”

Eric Rawson is executive director of the Henry County Convention and visitors Bureau and says it will be sanctioned by the country’s largest series of 3-on-3 tournaments. It’s the first “Gus Macker” tournament for southeast Iowa and the only such tourney in Iowa in 2006.

Rawson says the competition will take place on the streets of Mount Pleasant in the historic downtown area around the square. He says there’ll be lots of activities other than basketball around the square.

Rawson says this tournament is not just for elite players and all ages and skill levels are encouraged to take part. He says they group you based on your skill level so you play with others of your same skill.

Rawson says if you would like to register a team you can do so on-line through July 24th. Rawson expects to draw teams from Iowa, Illinois and Missouri.
