Waterloo police make arrest in nightclub killing

July 25, 2006 By admin

A man taken into custody on drug charges shortly after a fatal Waterloo nightclub shooting is now being charged with murder.

Nineteen-year-old Jeffrey Smith of Waterloo is accused of shooting and killing Tonyeah Jackson outside club Crystyles on July 9th. Smith has been in the Black Hawk County Jail since July 11th, when police charged him with possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver.

The drug charges stem from a follow-up investigation into the fatal shooting. While searching for possible evidence in the murder case, officers discovered a quantity of crack cocaine inside Smith’s downtown Waterloo apartment. Today, police formally charged Smith with first-degree murder. Bond is set at $1 million.
