The newest sponsor for the Iowa Speedway in Newton is the Iowa Pork Producers Association. The commodity group’s president-elect Scott Tapper says the partnership’s a natural fit. Tapper says since Iowa’s the number-one pork-producing state, the organization wanted to make pork the “official meat of the Iowa Speedway.” He says pork promotion groups have been associated with racing through ARCA Re/Max champion driver Frank Kimmel for years and have gotten great exposure from it. Tapper says the Pork Producers Association decided to forge ties with the sport of racing after surveying consumers and discovering a lot of overlap between two groups — racing fans and pork consumers. He calls it “Just a natural fit.” Tapper says promotions at the racetrack in Newton will include “the Pork Patrol,” a golf cart that’ll tour parking lots and visit people grilling there. “It’s like a big tailgate,” he predicts, saying they’ll offer race fans pork recipes and invitations to try more pork products. He says, “We’re going to have some fun with this promotion.” The pork racing program announced at the Newton track today (Wednesday) includes sponsorship of the ARCA ReMax Series race team. Track officials also said pork’s been chosen as the official meat at the speedway in Newton.
