Police say man in chase was a paroled killer

September 28, 2006 By admin

Authorities are releasing details now of a high-speed chase Tuesday afternoon that ended with a paroled killer arrested near Mason City. Forty-seven-year-old Thomas Michael Kitner of Mason City was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation and was located in a rural portion of the county. Kitner fled the scene after an altercation, leading authorities on a pursuit.

The chase ended in the southern part of Worth County when Kitner’s vehicle collided with a Cerro Gordo County patrol vehicle, with Kitner attempting to flee into a nearby farm field but being apprehended shortly after the crash. Kitner has been taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where he’s being held without bond on the parole violation. In 1988, Kitner pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his part in the slaying of a Fort Dodge man.
