Sioux City Police Chief says fatal shooting appears justified

October 6, 2006 By admin

Sioux City Police Chief Joe Frisbie says so far investigation points to a justified use of deadly force in the police shooting of a man on Tuesday. Frisbie says when a man charge at officers with a butcher knife, it does not look like his men had any other choice in the confrontation.

The chief says it looks like there was an appropriate use of force in this situation. thirty-year-old Ellis Parker was shot once while threatening the police with a ten-inch knife, and fled the scene only to be cornered by police. They say he was threatening officers again when he was shot and fatally wounded.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s joined the probe of what caused a fire at the trailer home the man had recently moved into, why he went out through a window, and why he was brandishing the kitchen knife.
