I-S-U downs Iowa in tight game

December 1, 2006 By admin

Iowa State fell behind 12-0 early against Iowa but the Cyclones roared back to claim an 80-74 victory in Iowa City in womens’ basketball Thursday night.

Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly says every game you play is important, but he says this is even more important to alumni and fans. Fennelly says the game against Iowa goes a long way toward celebrating what Iowa State University is about.

Fennelly says he told his kid before the game they will always be I-S-U graduates and always linked to the basketball team, and games they’ll remember the rest of their life. He says he’s proud of what they did in a tough environment.

Iowa dominated the opening half but the Cyclones grabbed momentum at the start pf the second
half. Iowa assistant coach Jan Jensen says they were concerned they came out a little flatter than what they expected after getting off to a great start. Jensen says it was the kind of game you expect with the in-state series.

Jensen says there was great play by both teams, but unfortunately Iowa State got more plays and more baskets to fall when they needed them.
Iowa falls to 6-2. Iowa State is 4-1.
