Defending champs easily handle U-N-I women

December 7, 2006 By admin

The U-N-I women were no match for the defending national champions as they lost to top ranked Maryland 77-33. U-N-I made only four of 35 field goal attempts in the first half and were 0-10 from the three-point line. Maryland was up 35-8 at the half.

The game was a homecoming for Maryland coach Brenda Frese who grew up in Cedar Rapids. Frese says they’ve been focusing on defending, and she says they did a tremendous job on defense.

Panther coach Tony Dicecco said playing the nation’s top ranked team was a great opportunity for his team. Dicecco says the tough part is they didn’t shoot the ball at all, shooting 11-percent in the first half and 20-percent for the game.
