The Gateway Area Red Cross in Clinton’s helping out about 90 people after a Tuesday-night fire at an apartment complex. The fire destroyed the apartment complex main building, with about 30 units.

Local Red Cross Director Dave Frett says the Red Cross is helping all the families with their immediate needs, but needs help. Two separate $5,000 donations have already come from the J.T. Cullen Company in Fulton, Illinois, and from Ashford University, a private for-profit college in Clinton.

College president James Chitwood noted that two of the school?s students and one former student lived in the apartment complex and lost everything. He added that the apartment building was the first location of Mount St. Clare Academy, which became Mount St. Clare College and is now known as Ashford University.
