Voters in Buena Vista County elect state representative

December 13, 2006 By admin

A special election was held in the Storm Lake area on Tuesday for two issues. Buena Vista County voters are sending Gary Worthan to the Iowa Legislature.

Tuesday’s special election was held to fill a seat vacated when State Representative Mary Lou Freeman died earlier this fall. Worthan, a Republican, got just over 70-percent of the vote.

Democrat Cate Logan got nearly 29-percent. Voters also overwhelmingly approved the renewal of a one-percent local option sales tax that will be in effect until the end of 2022. It was okayed by a three-to-one margin.
