Drake faces Toledo in SunBowl tourney

December 22, 2006 By admin

The Drake basketball team returns to action tonight against Toledo in the first round of the SunBowl Tournament in El Paso, Texas. The Bulldogs are 7-2 and have won six straight games and coach Tom Davis says his team has shown improvement in virtually every area.

Davis says they still have deficiencies and those are pretty well noted, yet the same time they have improved. Davis says it shows the strength of the Valley that they’ve improved, but were still picked to be eighth in the league.

Davis says it is not just one player that has made a difference this season. He says A.J. Calvin is getting notoriety because of the steadiness of his play and the numbers he’s producing. But Davis says there are a lot of other guys who’re helping too. Texas-El Paso and Jackson State meet in the other first round game.
