Des Moines man faces numerous charges after chase, standoff

June 8, 2007 By admin

A Story County Sheriff’s deputy suffered cuts to his hand following a vehicle chase and standoff with a Des Moines man this morning. Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald says the incident started with a gas drive-off at 1:30 a.m. in Ankeny. The motorist led police on a chase that ended when the car crashed in the town of Huxley.

Fitzgerald says that’s when a three-hour long standoff started. The man was a holding a knife to the neck of a female passenger. Fitzgerald says deputies were finally able to arrest the suspect around 5 a.m.

"Towards the end, the individual cut the line to the hostage phone he was using, ending the conversation," so Fitzgerald says deputies quickly moved in and were able to rescue the woman. Thirty year old Cory Michael Forrester of Des Moines is charged with fifth-degree theft, eluding a police officer, second-degree kidnapping, assault on a peace officer with a weapon, aggravated assault with a weapon and a parole violation. Forrester is being held at the Polk County Jail. The 17-year old female was not injured.
