DNR investigating drowning at Clear Lake

July 16, 2007 By admin

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is looking into the death of a man who drowned in Clear Lake Sunday afternoon. The DNR says shortly before 6 o’clock last night the man dove head-first off of his boat just outside of the ropes of the swimming beach near Clear Lake State Park and came to the surface face-down in the water.

DNR spokesman Kevin Baskins says the victim was pulled onto a nearby pontoon where CPR was administered. He was then taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City where he was pronounced dead. Baskins says an autopsy will be performed since it’s not known whether he hit his head on something that in turn resulted in his death.
