Northeast Iowa boy faces charges after stolen car spree

August 9, 2007 By admin

A northeast Iowa boy faces a long list of charges for allegedly stealing six vehicles, crashing three of them, all in the same night. The incident began at about 4 A.M. Tuesday when Fayette County deputies investigated a one-car rollover near Sumner.

Deputies could not find the driver and they discovered the vehicle had been stolen. In a span of about four hours, five other vehicles were reported stolen, three of them were found crashed on area roads. The sheriff was also alerted of a 12-year-old boy missing from a home in rural Hawkeye. In all, six vehicles were stolen, and all were recovered. A handgun reported stolen from another vehicle was also found.

The boy, whose name was not released, is being charged with six counts of operating a motor vehicle without the owners consent, six counts of driving without a license, burglary and several other driving citations. He was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, then taken to a Waterloo youth shelter.
