Severe weather pounds Iowa again

August 21, 2007 By admin

Severe weather Monday was carried by strong winds, gusting up to 70 miles an hour, bringing tree damage and power outages in southern Iowa. Cindy Steinbeck lives near the town of Diagonal in Ringgold County and had a challenge just driving home.

Steinbeck says, "Winds were so high that it was pulling my car down to about five miles an hour. The country roads we took just about a half a mile from our house have trees down. We have power lines down here at the hog confinement." Dick Stephens lives in the Taylor County town of Clearfield and will have to spend some time on clean-up duty.

Stephens says, "We had high straight-line winds here. I’ve got a big limb almost on top of my pickup and I’ve got six or eight good-sized limbs down outta’ trees." Tree damage is also reported in Mount Ayr and Kellerton.
