Decorah voters reject lease on former school

September 12, 2007 By admin

Voters in Decorah have rejected a lease plan for the embattled Eastside School building. In Tuesday’s election, 57-point-six percent of voters said "no" to the proposed two-year lease agreement for the building. A group of Decorah residents went to court to get the measure on the ballot in July.

The school board originally voted three-to-two to tear down the building in May. The building hasn’t been used since 1998 after concerns were raised by the state fire marshal.
