Regents President does not expect to be re-elected

October 4, 2007 By admin

The president of the Iowa Board of Regents does not expect to be elected to another term as the board’s leader. Michael Gartner’s two-year term as Regents president ends in April. An e-mail he wrote, that’s posted on the Regents website, states he does not anticipate being re-elected to the position.

For that reason, he’s asking president pro-temp David Miles to lead the search for the Regents new executive director. Gary Steinke is leaving that post at the end of October. Gartner was heavily criticized for his handling of the University of Iowa presidential search. His term on the board expires in April 2011.
