Harvest almost complete across the state

November 27, 2007 By admin

The latest report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture shows the harvest is nearly finished here. The only fields which haven’t been harvested appear to be in the south-central district of Iowa according to the report, which declared 99 percent of Iowa’s corn harvest complete.

A few grain storage problems are noted, but a majority of Iowa farmers are finding ample storage space for the corn and soybean crops. Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey says last week was a good week for preparing fields for next year’s planting.

Farmers worked on terraces, water tiling systems and grass waterways. In addition, fall fertilizer has been applied to over 60 percent of farm ground — all part of the prep work for the next growing season.
