Former Nebraska Governor and Senator Bob Kerrey is making a formal apology to one of the Democratic presidential candidates. On Sunday, Bob Kerrey endorsed Hillary Clinton in her quest for the White House. During his speech in Council Bluffs, Kerrey mentioned rival candidate Barack Obama’s Muslim heritage, saying Obama’s father and grandmother were Muslims.
On Wednesday, Kerrey sent Obama a letter in the mail, and via email, saying it wasn’t intended as an insult and he never meant to harm his candidacy. A spokesman for Obama says the senator did accept Kerrey’s apology. Two of Clinton’s Iowa campaign staffers were fired recently for allegedly spreading the rumor over the Internet about Obama being Muslim. Obama belongs to the United Church of Christ.
