Iowa State hosts Texa A&M

February 5, 2008 By admin

The Iowa State Cyclones are at home, tonight, in the Big 12 to host Texas A&M. The Cyclones are 3-4 in the league race after a loss at Nebraska and host an Aggie team that is 4-3 in conference play. ISU coach Greg McDermott says the Aggies are tough to defend because of their balance. He says there are not a lot of options in terms of what you want to take away from them.

After starting the league race 1-3, A&M has won three straight games. McDermott says they are catching the Aggies at a time when they are playing well. Leading scorer Wesley Johnson missed Saturday’s game due to a foot injury and he is questionable for this game. McDermott says it will be a game-time decision, if Johnson can practice and be functional, then he says Johnson will play.

These two coaches have met before when both were in the Missouri Valley. A&M coach Mark Turgeon is in his first season after guiding Wichita State. Turgeon says McDermott still does a lot of creative things with their offense and they play strong defense.

Turgeon says after a rough start to conference play his team has regained its confidence. He says winning at Oklahoma State was huge for them and right now he’ pleased with the way they’re playing. Iowa State is 14-8 overall. Texas A&M is 18-4.
