Two charged in scheme to get money for Northern Iowa banks

February 11, 2008 By admin

Two California men were arrested in northern Iowa this weekend and charged with using fake I-Ds to try to get cash. Twenty-two-year-old Tyish Hamilton of Antioch, California, which is near Sacramento, was arrested at the Bank of America in Mason City after clerks tipped police that something fishy was going there Friday afternoon.

Authorities say Hamilton was using a fake I.D. to try to make withdrawals from accounts that did not belong to him. He was arrested and charged with forgery. Just before midnight, authorities also arrested 31-year-old Mark Stephens of Oakland, California and charged him with aiding and abetting forgery.

Authorities say the duo struck at banks in Mason City, Clear Lake, Algona and perhaps other Iowa cities as well. The two are in jail in Mason City, facing charges that carry a sentence of up to five years in prison and several thousands dollars in fines.
