Search continues for man thought to have jumped into Mississippi

April 4, 2008 By admin

The search continues in eastern Iowa for a man who may have jumped off a Mississippi River bridge. Dubuque police were called to the Julien Dubuque bridge just before four a.m. Thursday on the report of an abandoned vehicle. The car was left in the eastbound lane of the bridge with the engine running.

The car was registered to 69-year-old David Kieffer of Hazel Green, Wisconsin. A bloodhound was brought in and indicated that the occupant of the car left the vehicle and walked to the side of the bridge, and that is where the trail ended. Keiffer’s family was notified and reported he was missing.

Police began searching the river under the assumption that Kieffer had jumped off the bridge. So far Kieffer’s body has not been located.
