Heavy rains close roads, schools in Hardin County

May 7, 2008 By admin

Heavy rains in Hardin County last night brought headaches to motorists and to the town of Alden today. The intersection of Hardin County Roads D-15 and D-20 is closed due to six inches of rain recorded last night.

The Alden Elementary School is closed due to four feet of water in the boiler room and one foot of water in the cafeteria. The school’s water softener suffered extensive damage. Crews from the Alden Fire Department spent this morning pumping water out of drains due to manholes running full.

Other rain measurements included Webster City at 1.21 inches, Eagle Grove at 2.37 inches and 3 inches of rain in Boone.
