John Deere Classic features 29 tourney winners

July 9, 2008 By admin

The PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic begins tomorrow morning near the Quad Cities and the field includes 29 players who have won tournaments, including nine with a major championship under their belt. That includes 2007 Masters’ champion Zach Johnson who will tee off just after 12:30 on Thursday.

While every round of a tournament is important the eventual winner can seemingly come out of nowhere. That was the case for 2007 winner Jonathan Byrd who put together a big final round. Byrd says he feels like he stole that tournament, as he got the breaks and made some birdies.

More than half of the top 100 money winners on the tour will take part, even though the tournament falls a week before the British Open. Byrd says it’s a fantastic tournament, and he says the course is fun to play. Byrd says the charter airplane that helps people get to the British Open should make more people consider playing the John Deere Classic. Lee Janzen is part of the first group that tees off Thursday in the opening round.
