Fort Madison looks at expansion

September 17, 2008 By admin

A southeast Iowa city could be getting bigger. The city of Fort Madison has been presented with taking over ownership of the Cedar Crest subdivision on the city’s west side. The city would be responsible for maintaining the streets, sewers and water main inside the development.

Fort Madison Mayor Steve Ireland says there may be benefits for the city, like running a through street for even more development to the west. Mayor Ireland explains what action the city council took at Tuesday night’s meeting. He says city staff and attorneys have been directed to draw up the appropriate papers for the housing development to be turned over to the city by the association.

The council will review the agreement before making its final decision.
