Fire claims life in Johnston

September 26, 2008 By admin

An overnight fire in central Iowa has turned deadly. Firefighters were called to a house fire in Johnston, at 8412 Sandford Place, at 1 a.m. The structure was engulfed in flames.

The fire was extinguished by 4 a.m., but some firefighters remained on the scene to douse hot spots and found a body inside the home at 7 this morning. The victim has not been identified but is believed to be an adult male who lived in the home.

The fire chief says a total of three people live there, but two were not at home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
