Messy encounter with bird lands Iowan on TV

October 10, 2008 By admin

An Iowa man’s messy encounter with a bird will be among the video clips featured on a national TV show this weekend. Brant Madison says the incident happened last Spring in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The 26-year-old Creston native had just asked his then-girlfriend, Amanda, for her hand in marriage. She said yes and the couple sat down to celebrate over a glass of wine. Amanda pulled out her camera to capture the moment.

“I’m sitting there saying something and out of nowhere, a big, white blob of bird crap comes and slaps me on the side of the face,” Madison said. The initial shock of the incident gave way to laughter. Madison says they were surprised to find out it was all captured on video.

“She thought she was taking a picture of me, but she actually had (the camera) on video record,” Madison said. “She had actually accidentally deleted the video off of her camera, so we had lost it. Luckily, I work in I-T security and know some people…they had to go hack into her camera and recover it.”

Brant and Amanda, who now live in Urbandale, submitted the video to ABC-TV’s America’s Funniest Home Videos . They’ve been told the clip will be part of this Sunday’s program, which airs at 6 p.m. (CST). The couple is planning a return trip to Puerto Vallarta to be married on March 30th of next year.
