Man dies in fiery I-80 crash

December 2, 2008 By admin

A portion of Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa was closed for five hours last night after a fiery, fatal accident. Troopers say at about seven o’clock an S-U-V driving west crossed the median in the Iowa City area and hit a semi in the eastbound lanes of I-80 head-on.

Both vehicles exploded in flames. The S-U-V’s driver — 38-year-old Matthew Libby of Clinton — was killed. The truck driver — 64-year-old Douglas Mode of Brookings, South Dakota — was rescued and taken to University of Iowa Hospitals. There’s no word on his condition.
