Deaths in Calhoun County ruled a double murder and suicide

June 16, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities are releasing new information about an incident in Calhoun County late last week. The autopsies performed on the bodies of three people found inside a rural Calhoun County home and a joint investigation show the manner of death for two of the victims is homicide.

Both 19-year-old Paige Gallo of Council Bluffs and 20-year-old Heather Campbell of Urbandale died from gunshot wounds. Twenty-year-old Luke Schleisman of Lake City also died of a gunshot wound and his manner of death has been ruled as a suicide. Early last Friday morning the Calhoun County Communications Center received a phone call from Vicki Campbell, the mother of Heather Campbell of a voice message from Heather’s cell phone.

The voice message recorded a verbal altercation followed by gunshots. Officers responding to the call located the residence in rural Calhoun County near Lake City found the three bodies. Autopsies were performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny last Saturday.

The weapon involved with the shootings was recovered at the scene. No other individuals are believed to be involved with the shootings.
