Davenport man arrest after driving car into house

August 12, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

One man was hurt and another arrested following a bizarre traffic accident in Davenport. It happened a little after 3 Wednesday morning at a T-intersection in northwest Davenport.

Police say a 2009 BMW driven by 26-year-old Jacob Swain of Davenport blew through a stop sign and crashed into a house, landing nearly completely in the basement. Swain fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later and charged with drunk driving, failure to have his vehicle under control, leaving the scene of an injury accident and having no insurance.

A passenger in the car, Ryan Smith, was treated for non-life-threatening head injuries and released. The house was vacant and for sale. It took two tow trucks to remove the car, which was impaled by 2-by-4s and siding.
