October 15, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A western Iowa man died at the scene of a combine fire Thursday evening, southeast of Wiota, in Cass County. The Cass County Sheriff’s office has identified the victim as 59-year old Mark Raymond Brown, of Anita.

An off-duty firefighter who was passing by reported the fire at around five p.m., in the vicinity of 730th and Jackson Road. Firefighters from Wiota, Anita and Massena responded to the scene.

Before firefighters could arrive, the flames had spread into a bean field. A tractor and disk were used to contain the fire. Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
