Cedar Rapids shooting victim identified

November 4, 2010 By Matt Kelley

Cedar Rapids Police have identified the victim of a shooting inside an apartment complex. Sergeant Cristy Hamblin says the victim walked into Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids at 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Hamblin says 44-year-old Ryan Dennis reported that he was in the hallway of his building at 500 7th Avenue Southwest when he was shot. There’s no word on his condition, but Hamblin described the gunshot wound as non-life threatening. Police have not identified a suspect in the case.

Dennis described the gunman as a black male, shorter in stature, dressed in black. “Shortly after the shooting, we had a car that was either silver or gray that left the area at a high rate of speed,” Hamblin said. “We’re not certain if it’s related or not, but we’re certainly looking into that as well.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Cedar Rapids Police. “At this time, we’re still just looking to find out why it happened, if Mr. Dennis knew the individual or what the connection was,” Hamblin said.
