Nebraska doctor plans to open an abortion clinic in Council Bluffs

November 10, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

An Omaha-area doctor who performs abortions plans to open several new clinics, including one in Iowa. Dr. Leroy Carhart has operated an abortion clinic in Bellevue, Nebraska, for many years but now plans on opening three new facilities.

One will be located in Council Bluffs. The others are in Maryland and Indianapolis. Carhart says the expansion is necessary due to new laws in Nebraska that prohibits longer term abortions. That procedure cannot be done in Nebraska after the 20th week.
