A mother and child died in a housefire Tuesday morning in eastern Iowa’s Clinton County. The building is a farmhouse that is the primary residence for five people. Three people were in the building at the time of the fire, one escaped unhurt.

The victims are identified as 26-year-old Taren Burris and her two-year-old son, Logan Taets. The causes of death aren’t yet known and autopsies are planned. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Two firefighters from Wheatland were hurt battling the blaze, but their injuries are not life-threatening.
