One person dead in house fire in Coin

April 14, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities in southwest Iowa’s Page County have not yet released the name of the person killed in a house fire on Tuesday night. Officials say the fire occurred just before 9 P.M. in Coin at the home of 56-year-old Trudy McDowell, but the victim of the fire has not been positively identified as McDowell.

The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny for autopsy. The autopsy is not expected to be complete until late this (Thursday) afternoon. When firefighters arrived, the two-story home and two adjacent parked vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

An investigation of the fire scene later resulted in the discovery of a body inside the home. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and the case remains under investigation.
