Three Iowa Conference softball teams are in NCAA tourney

May 10, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Three Iowa Conference softball teams will take part in NCAA division three regional action beginning Thursday. Luther is the top seed in a regional Eau Clair, Wisconsin. Coach Renae Hartl’s team is 37-4 and coming off the championship at the Iowa Conference tournament last weekend.

Hartl says the weather was great for the tournament and they hit the ball well and they are focused on winning games. The Norse are playing well in all phases, which she says is the most exciting thing about the team right.

Luther plays the regional opener on Thursday morning against St. Scholastica.

Coe is 34-9 and will take part in as regional in Pella that also includes the nation’s top ranked team from Linfield of Oregon.

Coe coach Bob Timmons says the region is the top seeded region of the eight, but he says it will be fun to see teams he hasn’t seen in awhile. Timmons feels a touch schedule has his team prepared for the tournament. He says the conference schedule and the preconference helped prepare them for this time of year.

Central is seeded second and coach George Wares says they are thrilled to be at home. He says not worrying about the travel is nice when they have finals to take care of too. Central had an early exit at the Iowa Conference tournament after losing its first two games and Wares says the Dutch are using that as motivation.

Central opens against Benedictine.
