Name released in fatal eastern Iowa ATV accident

July 8, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a boy killed in an all-terrain vehicle rollover. Ten-year-old Brandon Mangels of rural Blue Grass died Thursday at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was hurt Tuesday night in the accident on his family’s dairy farm.

Sheriff’s Captain Leroy Kunde says Brandon’s father had instructed his son to shut a gate in the pasture. He later noticed the gate was still open and went outside to investigate. He found the A-T-V on top of his son. Brandon would have been a fifth-grader at Blue Grass Elementary School in the fall.
