Jefferson man arrested after short standoff

July 22, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A Jefferson man is in custody after a short standoff Thursday that started when Greene County deputies attempted to serve an eviction notice. Deputies and family members had been in contact with the man for several weeks in attempt to have him vacate the residence, but they lost contact with him that evening.

The Iowa State Patrol was called in to help make contact as the man was barricaded in the house and had access to several firearms. Officials say the man did not make any threats with the weapons. Attempts to contract the man failed and officials then shut off power to the residence.

The man, identified at 48-year-old Dana M. Johns of Jefferson, came out a short time later. Johns is charged with interference with official acts.
