Investigators search for clues in fatal Warren County fire

August 1, 2011 By Matt Kelley

A fatal fire is under investigation in central Iowa. The fire was reported Saturday night at a home in the Greenfield Township of Warren County, just south of Des Moines. The house was gutted.

On Sunday, fire crews located a body in the ruins of the home. An autopsy is to be performed today. Authorities say the body may be that of one of the home’s residents — or someone else. The couple who lived there is identified as 79-year-old James Wood and his 72-year-old wife, Kay.

Investigators say the cause of the blaze is suspicious.
