Man charged in child’s death had childcare license revoked

August 22, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities are now releasing more details about a Muscatine childcare provider who’s charged in charged in the death of a child. The eight-month-old child who was in the care of Ryan McFarland. He was arrested Friday without incident and charged with child endangerment resulting in death.

He is being held in the Muscatine County Jail under $100,000 bond. Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren says McFarland placed the child in a crib on his stomach with his head on a pillow Wednesday. The child was later found unresponsive and died at a hospital.

Ostergren says McFarland’s license to operate a childcare business had been revoked by the state because McFarland didn’t disclose a felony conviction on his application to run the business. McFarland was convicted in Illinois in 1994 of burglary and attempted armed robbery.
