Webster City man dies in Indiana accident

September 7, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A motorcycle crash in Lake County, Indiana, on Tuesday afternoon killed a Webster City man and critically injured his passenger. The name of the victim is 29-year-old Chris J. Schrad.

Reportedly a 2001 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle operated by Schrad was traveling through a construction zone on Interstate 90 in the left lane of traffic and headed into a curve when it lost control on some gravel on the shoulder. The motorcycle then fishtailed, went across the right lane and struck a guard rail.

Schrad was thrown 428 feet through a fence and was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Schrad’s fiancee, 34-year-old Shelly Pierce also of Webster City, was thrown 122 feet from the motorcycle. Pierce was reported to be in critical condition as of last evening at North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana.

The report stated that neither Schrad and Pierce was wearing a helmet. The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for about 25 minutes as officials investigated the crash.
