Cedar Rapids man accused of trying to set ex-girlfriend on fire

April 3, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Cedar Rapids police have arrested a man on assault and arson charges. The suspect, 32-year-old Dennis McKinney, is accused of trying to light his ex-girlfriend on fire.

Officers were called last night to a domestic disturbance at a home on Cedar Rapids’ northeast side. A 39-year-old woman reported McKinney had sprayed a flammable liquid on her and attempted to set her aflame. Police say the woman’s coat caught fire, but she was able to remove it and avoided serious injury.

McKinney ran from the residence, but he was located and arrested early this morning.
