Two Kensett children die in accident on the way to canoe trip

July 11, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A prayer vigil is scheduled tonight at the northern Iowa elementary school attended by two children who were killed in a Worth County crash. The Iowa State Patrol says 9-year-old Cassidy Stehn of Northwood and 12-year-old Hana Riedinger of Kensett died in the crash, which happened Tuesday morning near Hanlontown.

The victims as well as four other children were in a van driven by 22-year-old Nicole Streets of Northwood, who was taking the girls to a canoe outing at Clear Lake. The van is owned by Worth County Conservation.

Streets was southbound on a county road when she failed to stop at the road’s intersection with State Highway 9. The van was broadsided by a semi. Ten-year-old Destiny Bruce of Northwood is in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester Minnesota.

The other occupants of the van are either in fair condition or have been treated and released from Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
